Nor do they always get a 'crew visa' on arrival and nor does every country offer them.
Excuse my ignorance then.
I have friends with lebanese passports who work for Emirates, Qatar airlines and middle east airlines and they travel around the world on duty without any prior visa preparation, this is why I assumed crew members get a crew visa when they are on duty.
