You can't go wrong with the usual culprits, Marriott, Hilton, Starwood, etc. As I said before I would never stay at one-off independent hotels, hostels, or motels in South Florida. They have been featured in the local news (Local 10, specifically) for not being compliant with local building codes and in extreme cases, being infested with cockroaches or ants.

I'm not saying the giant chains aren't susceptible to these things (The NYC Marriott Marquis recently fell victim to an insect infestation of its own), but generally, the giant hotel chain locations down here are pretty well - managed.
