The re-flags are typically worse than purpose-built HIXs, but I've found a few that are better. For example the HIX in downtown Salt Lake City is a converted Shilo Inn (a regional, midscale chain), and I like it more than most HIXs I've been in. It's a 12-story high rise with great views in a walkable area, feels very unlike the typical suburban low-rise HIXs I stay at. I think the only reason it wasn't reflagged as a higher-end brand is that the building's layout made it hard to put in amenities like a fitness center, business center, and meeting rooms.
