It was long after checking in, in the night when we came back into our room.
There was a note and everything with my name on it, saying that I was a platinum member (which I wasn't). 6 months later in another Renaissance hotel they also gave me some extras, same story...turns out that someone with the exact same name is a Marriott platinum member.
