I got a funny look from a security guy in Calgary. I had packed two alarm clocks in my carryon, and he picked one up, ran off to somewhere and came back a few minutes later. They were regular, non-threatening basic digital alarm clocks. I guess he wanted to examine the clock more closely.
I had packed them in carryon, because I once packed a very expensive alarm clock in my checked baggage and it was smashed. I explained this to the security staffer, and he understood and I was on my way. It helped that the second clock was still in its original packaging.
He was curious, but as far as I know, it's not a problem. As I said, basic digital clocks. The same kind many people have next to their bed.
