I have looking in the wikis, old posts and tha AA website, but can't find an answer to my question. I am on a US transAtlantic flight on Tuesday, and this will be my first time trying to use a SWU.

At the moment the flight is J9 and C0. I have set an alert on ExpertFlyer, so it C inventory opens up I believe the procedure is to call US reservations and request the upgrade.

But if no upgrades have opened up by the time OLCI starts, can one request an upgrade as part of OLCI? Or does OLCI play no role whatsoever in the process of upgrading on US?

In short, I am finding the mechanics of upgrading more than a bit unclear.
