BA173 LHR - JFK 28 August: First (Lunch)

Amuse bouche
Fresh salmon with melon (I think it was melon, hazy memory!). Wine: Virtu Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon 2012, St Supery, California.

The salmon was fresh and tasty, but not as good as the wine which was delicious!

Starter
Portland crab and avocado timbale with basil sorbet and chive oil

The crab was unfortunately a disappointment, it lacked taste and the sorbet and chive oil didn't really come through. I stuck to the same wine as it was going down so well!

Main
Seared fillet of Hereford beef with courgette rosti, green beans and morel jus. Accompanied by fresh salad. Wine: Walt La Brisa Pinot Noir 2012 California and Catena Alta Malbec 2011, Argentina. I asked to try both, before settling on the pinot noir which went well with the beef.

Given the caterer being Do&Co I thought I would chance the beef in the hope it might be pink in the middle! Unfortunately nothing has changed in this respect and it came up well done. It was however fairly tender and tasty.

Standard BA overcooked beef...

Dessert & Cheese
Soft chocolate dome infused with mango, served with fresh raspberries. I washed the cheese down with a glass of Warre's 2000 Port. Cheese: Coulommiers, Double Gloucester and Tuxford and Tebbutt Silton.

The dome exploded with mango and was delicious!

Afternoon Tea
Cheddar with onion chutney, chicken tandoori, chunky egg, smoked salmon. Bakewell tart, dark chocolate delice and lemon and blueberry meringue. Scones. I'm not sure where this wine came from!

This was my second flight in F, and overall the service by the crew was fantastic and was consistent with my first experience in First earlier in the year.
