A real world example is my last year in which I earned 1,000 TP on AA at $6.12 per TP and 1,220 TP on BA at $7.86 per TP. These were all for trips I wanted to make to visit places at times that suited me and were in no way optimised for TP. Fares were J/F on AA and T/J on BA. While I try to buy at a good price my timing is not perfect!
