It's not exactly new news
I wondered that as well...was there perhaps a Boeing press release or something?
A few other news outlets seem to have the story, with similar wording in spots. CNN and DM articles are nearly the same in this area though the CNN version makes clear the widest wingspan is in the context of "in the company's 99-year history".
CNN:
The plane will have the widest wingspan of any aircraft in the company's 99-year history: 235 feet, 5 inches (71.8 meters). To put it another way: It's wider than four 53-foot (16-meter) semi-truck trailers parked end to end.
From the Daily Mail in the OP:
The plane will have the widest wingspan of any aircraft: 235 feet, 5 inches (71.8 meters), making it wider than four 53-foot (16-meter) semi-truck trailers parked end to end.
