BA haven't checked DUB passengers passports at LHR for as long as I can remember (but they generally do at DUB and as you say LCY, however other forms of ID are ok on this service). I do wonder whether this was what tricked the script: no passports, but there is bio-photo, so we cut and paste off domestic flights.
