I've never had an issue (though only 3-4 experiences ever) with National abandoning me. I would always call the location directly to let them know I was coming so long as the flight didn't get cancelled, but National has made accessing local phone numbers very difficult in recent years. I think the odds are pretty good if they have your flight info that they'll hang around. Good luck!
