Flying out of Edinburgh today on Rouge flight. Was told by check-in desk that there is lounge access at gate 4. Flight is delayed an hour because of weather in Toronto apparently...yeah right. Go to Aspire lounge that has indicated that Lufthansa, United, and a few other airlines have access but I notice no AC. I was then refused access and told that AC has no relationship with Aspire. Called Air Canada and it was confirmed. This program is getting worse and worse by the day. Not a happy Super Elite 100k customer.
I think it would be advisable to consider if you have other means of accessing the lounge, such as American Express Platinum cardholders can get Priority Pass and that allows you access into the Aspire lounge. Other credit cards may also give you the option, but I know for sure Priority Pass does as I just checked my app.
I think you have to look at lounge access in this way
AC MLL - Yes
Star Lounges - Yes
Third party lounges - only if contracted for * alliance members or if there is a direct agreement with the airline.
If EDI flights are Rouge, I am not surprised that AC does not have a lounge access deal.
