Thanks!
Coming back, I asked my usual question, "is it possible to upgrade?" [figuring it's a good opening gambit to show I'm not just looking for freebies]. This time the BKK checkin agent talked to a supervisor and came back with ~C$150 each for an upgrade to J (this on the same non-upgradeable ticket). That's about half the difference between the R/T Y and J fares from Tiglion.
Then we asked about the upper deck, but she said it was already filled (by their Gold passengers and others). So we thought about it and decided to spring for the upgrade. (I know, I know, it's <3hr, and I fully intended to sit in Y, but in the end...).
It took her a long time to do, but finally we had two J BPs and a lounge invitation. Went and paid the 500B each to leave Thailand, cleared security and went hunting for the CI lounge. Nothing special whatsoever but it was peaceful.
Then we boarded and discovered we had bulkhead seats in J. I asked if we could move back a couple of rows, the FA asked us to wait until they had the final seat assignments and they knew which were empty. I said we'd be happy to wait until the door was closed.
Two minutes later the FA came and asked if we'd like to move _forward_. So we dutifully took our bags and trudged into F.
We only got Dynasty Class (J) service but the seats were very nice. And the service was incredible again! They again failed to load the vegetarian meal, I actually think Tiglion never requested it, so again we had a crew meal, this time beautifully arranged on real dishes. Apparently it was about the best meal of the trip. My regular meal was also on a par with what BA was dishing out in F.
The crew were incredible and I'd be happy to fly them across the ocean (unless they have another incident, that is).
