I've just been bitten by a fairly serious bug in the iOS app that I feel I should report. Forgive me if its been covered elsewhere. I haven't seen it mentioned, but that doesn't mean it's not buried in the thread ten pages up.
From time to time, if two passengers are on the same PNR, the app will display the wrong passenger's boarding pass. This can lead to extremely frustrating situations like the one I experienced just now: I got on my flight and blithely headed to 2B, assuming my husband was behind me. When he put his iPhone on the reader, however, his boarding pass wouldn't reconcile -- because it was actually mine. I was long gone, so he was forced to go to the flustered gate agent, who after ten minutes finally just printed him a boarding pass. (By this point the overhead bin space near us in F was claimed, but I digress.) He was furious with me for abandoning him ... but I was able to claim it was UA's fault.
This is not a case in which one of us accidentally checked in the wrong passenger, and I can prove it: I made a video which shows me tapping on my own name in the app, briefly being presented with my own boarding pass, but after a fraction of a second the boarding pass actually changes to his.
Again, this is not human error, and I can prove it. I'll upload the video once we're at our destination, as it contains our names and PNR, and I don't want those circulating while we're still in transit.
Now back to the EWR UC bar for a beer to calm my nerves.
