Thanks all !

It's been over 24 hrs so can't change for free. Also, from AMS, the smooth outbound connections are much more expensive. €2100 instead of €1400. Inbound it is fine but outbound arrival is at 11:15PM and departure at 08:35AM...

Read some reviews and decided that with getting off and on the plane, security etc, there is no point to go into town. Slumming it in the lounge for 8hrs.... I could do it, but do I want to ? I booked QR so I could enjoy their flights and that way I figured I'd be too exhausted.

Booked the Airport Hotel and they indeed have several packages. 'Cheapest' one is QAR 720 (still a whopping €175) for 5 to 8 hrs, single occupancy, cheapest room. It is literally next to the lounge, so I see it like a lounge extension. You need to book the full rate (QAR 850) on their website and then email them to ask for a reservation amendment. A very smooth process and they reply almost instantly. FOC cancellation up to 24hrs.

I see it as a bonus because at least my A380 to BKK is now a day flight and I can enjoy the experience more. (In all honesty, I think I was foolish for not noticing it...)

So, now it is a €1575 J-class return AMS-BKK with 8hrs of Krug, food and some sleep in between.

IF you can't get a shorter transit than 8 hrs (because it doesn't exist), than QR pays for your hotel, but it will be land side so you lose a lot of time. Helpful staff at QR CS by the way. Super friendly. ^

I was thinking the same thing. I was all ready to be taken to slaughter because I started a topic based on a mistake...
