Well, OK, but Windows 7 operates functionally almost identically to Vista, and it's still pretty easy to get a new laptop with Win7. So the operating system does not need to present an issue unless you want it to.
What you've described to us here seems like a whole lot more effort than simply buying a new laptop, but each to his own.
