There is no basis for this. Those are not on the prohibited list. Next time they try to take it away, ask them to produce the Transport Canada list of prohibited items, then ask them why they permit laptop and other wireless transmitted (that can be powered during flight) in the cabin?

Give yourself some extra time if you choose to go this route. I have had a few such interactions with Guarda staff before - in the end they just let me be on my way, but noit before I started taking notes of the interaction and individuals names and asking for the CATSA representative (chacked and took not of the gov't ID number too) to be present.
