Connecting BA F to AA (Domestic) F at ORD in December
It has been a while since I’ve connected at ORD, so forgive the questions. We have a three-hour connection time, but in case the flight from London runs late I want to make sure we know what the deal is so can act quickly.
My wife (American) and I (British) will be arriving in F on the 297 on the Saturday before Christmas. It’s scheduled to arrive at 18:45 and our connection to BNA in F (different PNR) departs at 21:45. This is the last flight to Nashville that day, so I’m really hoping that works out! Having looked at it recently, BA297 doesn’t seem to have a great punctuality record, and that’s in the summer! From an earlier thread, I believe we can use the Flagship Lounge (due to BA297), however we’re unlikely to have much time and it’ll probably be at the other end of the terminal to our gate. However, I do have a few other questions.
1. Can I get the agent at LHR to check our bags through to BNA?
2. If so, Can we just put them on the belt after customs, or will I need to go to a desk and check it in there?
3. I know AA would put us on the next flight if we miss it, but given that it’s the last one of the day, what would be the situation? Would they put us on one the following day (assuming there’s availability that close to Christmas)? I’m also assuming we’d be liable for any hotel costs?
4. Should I try to move the connection to BNA to the following day now? I’m reluctant to do this unless there are real chance of me missing the original flight and/or we’d incur significant costs for missing it.
I’ve done this route quite a few times, but in the past have always been on the same PNR. There’s never been a problem, but you can bet the one time I’m not completely protected, it would happen!
