I wouldn't rule out Thailand in September either, at least not on a weather basis. I would probably rule out mainland China if your time will overlap the September 26- October 8 period, as it is a major national holiday time and trust me, you don't want to be around then. Hong Kong will also get crowded with mainland Chinese visitors as well, just a friendly "heads-up."
