Does anyone else struggle with when 12.00 AM is?

Cancellation policies that have a cut-off of 12.00 AM always leave me confused. 12.00 is neither AM or PM but midnight or midday. 12.01 AM is clearly the middle of the night but is 12.00AM a minute before or 12 hours earlier ... or later.

Would anyone else find it easier if Starwood required hotels to state 12.00 as either midday or midnight (although midnight is still confusing as it could be the day before or the day after. Or even better use the 24 hour clock.

William and colleagues: What convention does Starwood follow - when is 12.00 AM and when is 12.00 PM and which day does it refer to?
