How does the renewal time frame work when you downgrade from Elite to Gold for a year and go back up to Elite after a year. Do they consider you new member into Elite with 2 year benefits or still 1 year? Its not really a renewal.
I know for downgrade I got GOLD for 1 year. how does it work for 2nd time upgrade?

I've just had this between Gold and Silver. Was downgraded from Gold to Silver at the end of March this year (was just short - 250 miles!!! - of the 40000 requested miles in the qualifying year - 2014).
But by mid-April 2015, thanks to a long haul trip, I reached again the 50000 miles requested for a new Gold status (I earned 50000 miles in the 365 days calendar period April 2014-April 2015).
Nothing happened and I sent a mail to Etihad guest with a print screen showing the 50000 tier miles from my account. And for once I had an answer within the 3 days welcoming me to Etihad Guest Gold. Got my card in July, valid for the rest of 2015, plus 2 years.
So yes you should get the same if you qualify again for Platinum (125000 miles within 365 days)
