The phone calls you described remind me of the times when I had to call BA for award changes. Perhaps if I ever start flying Delta for many revenue flights and credit to VS, I'll look at this option again.
Precisely... Whether through willful design or simply a lack of interest in investing in implementation, Flying Club likes to tempt members with the possibility of partner awards without actually having to book too many of them. It's 2015, and VS often have to call the member back a few days later to confirm (or more likely deny) a partner award booking???
Booking on partners involves VS either paying for the award seat (at some preferential rate) or netting off against revenues from partners buying VS miles or award seats. Awards on VS itself involve nice juicy surcharge revenues.
That said, I do veer between:
- sympathy for people who sign up for big credit card bonuses then can't spend those miles except to fly to London
- shaking my head at people who sign up for credit cards without researching the frequent flyer programme, just believing the marketing promises
Understandably SkyMiles is even worse though. Alaska Airlines is where I credit my occasional Delta flights...
