gregory_king, I agree with the taxi idea, but I think it only works transferring domestic to international - not the other way around(I don't think that you can get out the front door - going through flight connections they keep you on a fairly tight path.
We were returning from Inverness a couple of years ago going through Heathrow on BA. BA's flights were cancelled, they put us from INV to London on Air UK which flew into Stansted. 80 minutes after landing at Stansted, a transfer bus finally came to take us to Heathrow. They dropped my wife, myself, and a woman with a bad cold off at the wrong Heathrow terminal. We grabbed a taxi (too long of a wait for the next bus, offered to let the other lady share our taxi). Her large behind forced my wife to sit one cheeked in the taxi (I don't have a small behind, but this woman's was large). As I was paying the driver, the woman leapt out of the taxi and dissappeared - forgot to pay her share of the ride.
Oh well, BA actually upgraded us to biz so it all worked out for the best.
