I've received this email so many times in the past it's like "oh" that finally came through once I get my mobile notifications.
I can totally believe this, although SEA-NRT last month was 2-4-3 at the time of booking ~6mo before and it stayed that way without any change. I was pleasantly surprised.
That route's only been around a few years, but I've flown it half dozen times now and it may have been the first time that the seating didn't change between time of booking and the flight. The changes have been 787 to 777 and vice-versa, 2-4-2 to 3-3-3 on 787, etc.
