Can you explain this? Do you mean that handbags/purses were stolen, but that suitcases were not?

Some rental-car companies offer "personal effects coverage" (PEC) that covers personal property stolen from the rental car. But I don't know how much you actually lost (in dollar terms) from the items that were stolen.

Why was a "change in schedule and hotels" necessary because of the theft?

In the future, the best advice is never to leave valuables in a parked car. For example, why were passports left in an unattended car?
