Hi wackydream.
Asia is an absolutely wonderful choice with so much to offer. I have been based in Hong Kong for 3 years and a few days in HK is definitely worth it. Singapore is a great few day stop as well. If you do China, I would recommend Shanghai since it offers a good blind of east and west for first time China travellers.
When exactly will you be travelling? Rains usually start diminishing in September in Hong Kong.
If you are travelling in mid-November, the tree colors in Japan (Kyoto) are absolutely beautiful, and I would say a must.
If you want to stay somewhat dry, checking out Malaysia or Indonesia might be a good bet. Bali is one of my favorites, although might be a little out of the way.
