I think the Delta Platinum Skymiles Amex allows the cardholder to bring in one guest for $29. One can do that eight times in a year and still be cheaper than upgrading. (asuming no Amex reimbursement on the upgrade fee)
The Amex platinum (non delta) allows the same thing, and it DOES get a reimbursed. Just did this last month.
