True, but I think (maybe mistakenly) that 3 a-holes would easier and quicker to deal with then 30

The problem is they have created essentially 7 different zones to board. People are one of 2 when it comes to this

1) Confused (understandable if you dont travel often)

2) Purposely board with the wrong zone because of the "premium" overhead space issue created by the stupid baggage fees
You are correct and the 7 zones is already a disaster because some of the zones have "names" and some of the zones have "numbers" this "hybrid" mix sets you up for disaster from the start.

Next you have people who got the AMEX gold card and were told they would get "priority boarding" they could easily be confused and think Zone 1 was really Zone 1 the first zone to board. After all 1 is usually 1st. What is confusing to many don't know is there is really at least 3 "named" zones ahead of the 3 numbered zones. I hear it all the time from folks talking in the crowd, I'm zone 1 I need to line up close to the front.

The the confusion part is right on.

The other part is people who know the difference but just "must" store that oversized bag that really exceeds carry on size anyway because they are going on a 3 week trip and didn't want to pay $25 to check it. So now even though i'm zone 3 I've got to make sure that I get on no later than SKY so that I can put my oversized suit case that will take up an entire bin into a bin before they all get full. Delta created this nightmare and honestly I hope nothing more than they loose that collusion suit about baggage fees. If anything they should charge for the convenience of carry on. Before baggage fee's only your most seasoned travelers took anything larger than a brief case as carry on. If it were up to me everyone would get 1 free checked back, medallions would get 2 free checked bags and 1 free cary on other than purse/book bag/computer bag/brief case. ANY non-status with a cary on larger than a purse/book bag/computer bag/brief case would pay probably about $40 for the privilege of carry on.

What would happen then? Flights would load faster, Flight attendants wouldn't get hurt as much, passenger disagreements would go down, no more begging for people to check at the gate, no more forced checking at the gate, etc etc etc and in the end, more flights would actually leave on time and maybe there would be a sliver of truth in the "on time machine" advertising.
