Being rebooked from a "direct" to now "connecting" flights usually does mean more miles. The "direct" flight would only earn miles for MEM-CDG, which would be calculated using the great circle distance between Memphis and Paris, and wouldn't account for the stop in ATL at all. By now getting two flights that are separate flight numbers, OP will get MEM-ATL mileage and ATL-CDG mileage (or wherever OP is routed through).
