Hyatt, it appears, is no exception.
I'm coming into this fairly new, so my expectations are low. Recently I posted about my great experience using a DSU at the PH NYC only to find out from veteran Hyatt folks that my Diamond experience there was anything but special. How dare the hotel only give me a Jr. Suite on the 9th floor and not higher up!
I think the important thing to take away from sharing all of these experiences is that each guest experience is subjective. I have had the GH Kauai on my radar for a while now. I'm not sure if using a DSU and staying in the hotel wing you describe would be a bummer for me or not.
We are all trying to game the system in one way or another to improve our odds of having the best experience possible. I keep and open mind and respect that Hyatt will do their best to give me a great experience. So far, that has worked well for me. Like in life, it helps if you lower your expectations.
After years of getting ocean suites on 4 or above in the Poipu wing, we were put in one of those 1st floor suites that are pretty much below ground level. I hated it so much I asked for my points back and to put us in a regular room on a higher floor.
I was told that the hotel had to crack down on the suites they were giving away because so many people were using DSUs and points for them. Now it's only 1st floor suites as freebies.
