I'm not sure which third-party website you used, but this is what I do. I too often book through a third-party website called Rakuten (a Japanese website, and I use their Janpnese-version page). Rakuten gives you the option for most hotels to prepay upfront, but I never do. I always opt to pay at the hotel. Whenever I need to make a booking change, I always contact the hotel directly and they're almost always able to manipulate the booking on their end (eg, change dates, change #people) . Anyways, I would try contacting the hotel directly. However, if your booking is prepaid through your third-party website (eg, Hotels.com) or if the hotel and the third-party website have different room inventories, then your booking may be untouchable and they'll probably tell you to contact that third party company instead.
I used Agoda for the booking. There was a prepay option but opted to pay at time of check-in. I'm hoping they can move up my dates and also keep my original rate intact.
