Cheap way into First?
Before you shout at me, I am in no way advocating this kind of behaviour if it in any way is against the airlines policies, or even against the policies of this website. I am merely trying to establish if it is a practice that has been tried by any others here, and not suggesting anyone should try this.
Due to my recent discovery of being able to book BA CW seats at a fraction of the price quoted by BA by simply booking through likes of AA / Iberia websites has made me wonder if it’s possible to book one of these flights on IB/AA sites (flying on BA metal of course) then use whatever points to upgrade to First as opposed to paying “full” business fare directly through BA.com.
For example on a flight from LHR to JFK there has a difference of 18000 points required to upgrade one way from CW to F, which I see is quite reasonable if the initial CW seat can be brought at a fraction of the price of what BA want to charge.
The only restriction I can see is that the CW ticket brought through IB or AA would be of a ‘non-flexible’ nature and therefore not able to be upgraded using cash or miles.
Has anyone tried this?
Thanks,
R.
