We were on vacation last year when the hurricane hit the BI. We were on the west side of island, in the Waikoloa area. The hurricane hit, ran into the volcano, and just kind of stalled. We didn't even get rain, but we did get some sporadic wind gusts. The east side of the island got hammered. We met some vacationers who were on the east side, and it ruined their vacation. We just had a nervous night and were fine.
We moved to Kauai for a week, and it was awesome. If a storm came ashore there, it would be worrisome. Good luck to those there.
Was at GH kauai for last 3 days, heavy rain for 1-2h and then sunshine. All boat tours are cancelled due to storm.
fyi, this hotel is not up to standards, slow service, parking far from room, breakfast isnt great, rooms are average.
Currently at the St Regis forremainder of the stay, and nice weather here as well.
