Week 3, day 6 & 7

As with the previous weekends one of my days was to be devoted to football. On Saturday my alarm went off at 0530, after a shower, breakfast and finding my match tickets I was out the door for the 0706 train to Manchester. Following a short connection in York we arrived just before 10am and went for a few pints in the centre before heading to the ground. Our start to the season is a tough one and our game against Man Utd was no different. We have not had a very good record at Old Trafford in recent years.

As this is not a match report I will keep it brief. After our appalling performance last week in Swansea, this match could not of been more different. A superb performance by the team kept the game tight and give little opportunity to Man Utd. The game ended 0-0, both teams had chances to get a goal, both hit the woodwork and we could of nicked it at the end with a quick counter attack.

A video of our outstanding support today.

After the match we made our way back to the city centre on the train, within an hour of the game finishing we were in a pub. The weather forecast had described Manchester as being under a thunderstorm for much of the day. The actual weather could not of been more different, sunshine all day with a temperature over 20c.

We had a few hours in Manchester before our train home, several bars were visited to toast the good team performance.

I know you have all been waiting for a picture of a pigeon eating a Malteser.

The only issue of the day was the delay on the train back to York, it appears the bad weather had been a little further east. The track was flooded between Leeds and York meaning a 45 minute diversion. We missed our train back to Newcastle so we had to take a later option getting in around 90 minutes late.

Due to the good weather I had been needlessly carrying a jacket with me all day, this came into good use when we got off the train. The rain had followed us north, thunder and lightning was on full show on the 15 minute walk home.

Sunday was very much a relax and do nothing day. I did move myself to go out for a pub lunch, which was much appreciated after a good few drinks on Saturday. The rest of the day was filled by watching football or playing PS4.

Early to bed at 2230 in preparation for a busy week.
