Any thoughts on the Saddle Room? Based on comments in this thread it sounds like their are better options elsewhere from a value perspective.
Any ideas on local coffee houses? I am looking for places that do manual pour-overs, single-origin coffee, etc. Closest to the hotel, it looks like Coffee Angel is my best bet. Any other thoughts / recommendations?
The Saddle Room is very odd. A lot of the dining area is interior and a bit claustrophobic as there are no windows at all and the various dining areas are small. And then, in the parts where there are windows, they are heavily covered with draperies, because of the scaffolding and plastic issue. To me, the food was unappetizing for breakfast. Just nothing I would want to eat. Very mass market. The only nice thing I would say about it is that some of the servers were quite friendly, and did their best to fulfill special requests.
With regard to a St. Stephen's Green view, virtually the entire hotel is covered with scaffolding. I have heard several dates for it being removed, but none earlier than November. The hotel will try to say the scaffolding is not a big deal. Don't believe them. Looking out at green plastic is a big deal. There was a small side of the hotel in another building where there didn't appear to be plastic. This is in the area of the very outdated business center, which did have a nice view over St. Stephen's Green (which I enjoyed while I was waiting for the ancient equipment to eventually churn out my boarding passes -- took me at least 20 minutes to get things to work, and obviously other people had the same experience judging by the many boarding passes littering the room).
If you are unhappy with your room, expect no help or interest from the management here. They are totally unresponsive and seem to be only interested in squeezing every last euro from the customers, even if it comes to misrepresenting the hotel and the extent of work going on. This place really was one of the least customer service oriented places that I have ever stayed in recent memory.
For coffee, recommend Dolce Sicily around the corner on Dawson St. Also, there is a 24-hour Starbuck's on St. Stephen's Green if you get a late-night caffeine urge.
