Aggghhhh I wrote a whole reply and my stupid computer froze and erased it.

I live in a tourist magnet area of Paris. This summer, in my building we've had 3 owners who rented their places. Just yesterday a family from Amsterdam were loitering in the garden while waiting for the keys to be delivered. The kids were all over the plants to the point where the guardian had a talk with them.

You bet that Sept the owners will be receiving letters from the syndic explaining the rules of the building and that it is against the law to rent out.

It is a well known fact that summer is the hight of breaking into homes season, with strangers loitering in the hallway or garden, I wouldn't know who is renting and who is scooping out the place. Yes, a potential thief can talk a renter into letting them in etc etc. This is a safety issue, for me and many others.

Think about it.

As for Les Grand Dames, the renter who uses Airbnb et al (except for One fine Stay, they are on same league of les dames) I don't think they make a dent on their financial sheets. The client who stays at the Palaces want service/amenities/luxury, those can't be provided by apt, unless you hire a staff to do it for you.

I talked to the GV's GM yesterday and he said that they are fully booked and had a great summer except for a lull in June. The only thing that would affect them is the reopening of the Ritz in Oct.

I think, and it is my opinion only, that the small little hotels are affected. But since, up to today Paris had more than 85 million visitors, up from last year (the whole of Europe saw an increase in tourism) at the end of the day, everything averaged out.

Uber still works very well thank you, only the other one Uber X ???? is being asked to stop.

And no, I have nothing to do with the travel industry.
