The worst was a very NON-NICE flight in a Avianca turbo-prop over the Andes between Bogata and Bucaramanga. The hail storm went on and on (and we went up and down, round and around etc) for 2+ hr (usually approx 1 hr flight). It sounded like being in a car wash using ice. When we landed I actually walked on th tarmac around the plane looking for damage (and I think I saw some).
A close second was in a B727 landing in PHL during a very severe t-storm. We were on final approach only a minute before touchdown when we must of entered (as we know now) a micro-burst. The plane shuttered unbelievably as we (almost) went into a stall condition. I was in 1B and could hear a zillion alarms going off up front. Masks dropped, most luggage bins opened etc. Somehow we made it and landed in Atlantic City. An hour later PHL re-opened and about 1/3 of us flew back. The rest took a bus. I am positive at least 90% of the passengers barfed and/or had a religious experience. Not a nice time. The FA's were totally ashen and for some unknown reason the flight deck door remained closed during passenger off/on loading for some reason. I really wanted to shake that nice pilot's hand. What a guy!
I was so shook-up I totally forgot my suit jacket. They mailed it to my house a few days later along with a free dry-cleaning chit. I assumed it was for my pants.
