FWIW, both are fine and roughly equal, IMHO. I prefer the Hyatt Alicante although it may be a bit farther, since the Hilton is so huge and often accomodates a massive convention crowd. Yet, the Hilton Towers are nice.

Regarding a car, well it IS CA and so I usualay do! But the hotels typically run shuttles, so it's not necessary just as long as your on their schedule. If you are looking at costs, the parking is NOT free!
