But a fare in the thousands for a business class flight is not unrealistic. We don't all walk around knowing how much a flight from x to y 'should' be. We search for a flight and we book it. I once paid £79 return to Madrid - my taxi to Heathrow cost me more. Should I have known better than to think this was real? Should I consult a fare history chart to verify? Or do I accept that a return flight to MAD might conceivably be less than a taxi to the airport?
It is not my job to work out if a fare is correct or not. If I book a fare and it tickets (or even if I get a PNR quite frankly) I expect it to stand. Otherwise you are suggesting that everything I book, including a flight I just saw to HNL from DUB around the £1400 mark, could be subject to being an error and be voided. I don't have time for these games and neither does any other genuine traveller.

Oh you, being so reasonable!
