I fully understand the emotions attached as I have them as well. However I cant remember the last time I purchased a rev tkt to TLV since per mile its 1 of the most expensive places to fly to. I fly a min of 3x per yr all award tkts on *A carriers. Ive done the PHL flight twice.

I dont know the answer but in order for what you say to be true about AA intents then the BoD today would have to be the same (or majority of it at least) that was in place when AA took over TWA, would be nice if someone has the means to find that out, my gut says it wont pan out
