A couple of years ago HP lost my wife's luggage. Since the final flight was on CO, they handled the search/compensation. My wife had been attending a lengthy meeting in Las Vegas and had multiple business suits etc. They asked for a list, cost, date of purchase, receipts (none avialable). The total came to about $3000. They sent her a check for the maximum $ 1,250 immediately. I then contacted my homeowners insurance (Prudential). They deducted my $500 deductible form the balance and depreciated the clothing and sent a check for $950, with the proviso that if in the next 6 months She replaced the lost articles, they would pay for the differnce between the depreicated amount they had already sent and the cost of the new replacement item. This was because I had "replacement value" as part of my insurance contract, unbeknownst to me. All in all, I thoght it was pretty fair.
