Punki: Thanks for the elucidation regarding Sitka and Ketchikan. They do sound appealing. The issue then is whether scheduling-wise I can make flying to these destinations work in just a weekend trip. I'll have to see if I can get the next edition of the time tables (current on Web site thru June 10 only).

As for starboard/port, aye aye, captain, I'll make sure to try to take that advice.

Eastbay1K: Are you from Alaska originally? I.e., is your addiction due to being native-born, or developed as a visitor?

Droneklax: So, what would I have available to do at Careyes? I want to visit some place, not visit a "fantastic hotel" which as pleasant as the experience might be, could be located anywhere in the world and not really make a difference to the experience.

wonderer: I'm certainly not complaining about my "problem". HOMER presents the same scheduling problem for me. Besides, as much as I don't really mind flying, flying 6 segments in a single weekend isn't particularly appealing.

dgolds: I went up to Seattle on about 55 business trips last year (hence my 250,000 miles on Alaska), so it doesn't feel like some place exotic to go to for a weekend, but rather some place where I've commuted to and from, not entirely voluntarily. However, I was fortunate enough to be able to set my own travel schedule and include a number of Sundays where I bummed around the city last year. I haven't been to Vancouver or Calgary, although I had considered trying to ferry from Seattle to Victoria but couldn't make the scheduling work out. (Ferry to Victoria from Seattle is a day trip, but only if you can get to the ferry dock way too early in the morning.)

MileageAddict: Good to hear vouchers were readily usable even during a very busy time. I'm going to make reservations as soon as I decide, although the vouchers claim you don't have to, but can just present the flight coupons at the gate. (Heck, one good reason for making reservations... it makes me eligible for compensation for voluntary denied boarding, even when traveling on such a ticket in the first place.

Baze: Vancouver sounds like it could be my back-up plan if the flight schedules for Anchorage don't work well. Reduced travel time is certainly a point in its favor.
