I just sent my sister and her husband on a weekend getaway to Vancouver from the bay area. They loved it. So much to see and do. They went to nearby Victoria by ferry to go to Buchart Gardens. They said if they had tried to go any farther by plane it would have eaten too much of their weekend. Vancouver was a good distance to go for a weekend.
