Street artist
Banksy has created his own unique take on Disneyland, in the form of
Dismaland.
It's open for five weeks on (21st August to 27th September 2015), in a derelict sea-front building in Weston-super-Mare (about 25km southwest of Bristol).
Amusingly, there's a piece around pointless airport security theatre which greets you as you enter the experience, called the UK's first 'Bemusement Park'.
If you're planning to visit, tickets will be available up to 10 days in advance from the
Dismaland website.
Long Distance Travel
The last Banksy event (in 2009) brought people from around the world to Bristol. If you're planning to come and be bemused, here's how to get to the small West of England town of Weston-Super-Mare.
By air, it's easiest to fly into Bristol Airport (BRS) followed by an airport taxi out to Weston-super-Mare (approx GBP30), or the Airport Flyer shuttle into Bristol Temple Meads railway station and a train back out to Weston-super-Mare (approx GBP18).
Alternates are London Heathrow (LHR), Birmingham (BHX) or Exeter (EXT). You can take trains (see
http://nationalrail.co.uk) or hire a car to get to Weston-super-Mare.
Accommodation
There aren't many chain hotels around Weston, so it's best to look at hotels in Bristol (or Bath, if you want to have a look around there as well).
There are frequent and cheap trains between Bristol and Weston-super-Mare, and it's a 10 minute walk from Weston station to the location.
If you do come over West, don't forget we're in the same region as Bath, Stonehenge and The Cotswolds, so there's plenty to stay and see after you've been bemused by Banksy.
