When you've had 3 or more, or even 2, have you had good luck being assigned non-middles, assuming they were available?

It's middle-avoidance that is probably my biggest concern - at least for 2 of our seats.

We're already prepaid one checked bag, so seating position in the front vs. back is less of a concern.
