Cost of air travel through the years
Curious if there has is a net site that shows the lowest cost of air travel, adjusted in today's dollars?
If there is no such site, anyone care to give how much they used to pay for tickets(lowest price).
I was just watching the Discovery channel's "Evolution of the plane" and they gave an interested statistic:
In 1939 dollars, a transatlantic roundtrip flight was $675. When adjusted for today's dollar, the ticket was twice the cost of today's roundtrip concord ticket.
I first started flying in the mid 70's and remember my Father paying almost $500 for an advanced purchase, roundtrip ticket from Atlanta to Albany, NY. Imagine, now you can go to Hong Kong for that same price(not adjusting for inflation).
Truely, we are in the best era of air travel. With ever crowding skies and someday, much higher fuel costs, I believe that the period from the 80's until maybe 2010 will be viewed as the great era of flying. Eventually, I think that mag-lev trains will replace most intercontinental air travel.
