I recently used my free night voucher (UK Barclaycard) which, of course, I understand does not generate IHG points in any way. Myself and some fellow travellers dined in the hotel charging this to my room for ease. Upon check out I settled the bill which amounted to just over £400. I was surprised on checking my IHG account to see the dining element has been listed within the "non qualifying stay" section. I called IHG to check and they confirmed that a non qualifying stay negates any points award for incidentals or dining.
Is this correct? If so I guess it's lesson learned - don't spend anything when on a free/awards stay!
Points Awards Nights will earn points for qualifying incidentals Eg F&B .
Points Award nights are a sort of halfway house as are a)non-qual b)still increment nights stayed counter towards elite status nights target
Nights booked with CC free night certs typically would not earn incidental points and eg for Ambassadors staying at IC's eg Bangkok will find IC hotel does not need to extend Ambassafor bennies for that cert night
