When was that? They are constantly improving the maps. That said, I just used the map that came with my Avis rental combined with the directions on the hotel website. It's not like there's a huge network of roads in the Yucatan. There's the main highway or the local roads which are indeed in somewhat poor condition. The main highways start out from the cities as large modern US Turnpike like roads and as you get out near Santa Rosa it turns into a two lane highway, but still modern like you would find in the US.
That was last year. The problem was that the fastest route from Izamal was along the hypotenuse of a triangle formed by Izamal, Merida and Temozon. So it selected that for me. By the time we realised it was not exactly an autopista we were too far along to turn around. Besides the track was too narrow to do a three-point and the sides of the track didn't look safe to drive on.
Imagine the road from Temozon through the little village to the main highway and worsen it by about 10 times. Mule track is probably a better description.
