If you have to ask for assistance and you don't speak Portuguese, you will have to look hard for someone who speaks English. Have you ever been thru GRU? If it's a first time, this isn't the time to be worrying about a very tight connection with a terminal change. IMHO.
I've been to GRU before but never for an int'l transfer. I recall people holding signs directing transferring passengers, but this was probably 5-7 years ago and I'm not at all familiar with the new T3. I won't have checked luggage - if I did, I agree this would be impossible.
