Observers suggest it is "proving season" for the plethora of travel sites that have sprung up in recent years. While a few of these companies look likely to make a go of it, some of the smaller, newer players need a strong summer showing to survive. At the same time, Wall Street will be watching to see which of the publicly-traded firms look like good long-term bets. "This is the telling time," said Doug Topkis, who helps manage the Smith Barney Small Cap Growth Fund. "They've already had enough time to market themselves and create brand names."
